THE UNCONFERENCE

Shaping the Future of Local News, Together

The 10 Points Unconference is a unique opportunity for journalists, editors, and media executives to meet, discuss, and craft together a roadmap for the future of media, one issue at a time. The first edition will be devoted to local news.

40 participants, 3 days of event, 10 points

Gather significant experiences in journalism, identify challenges, and propose concrete solutions. This is the goal of the “10 Points Unconference on Local Journalism,” an event aimed at journalists, editors, and media executives.

Over the course of three days, in Catania (Sicily) from June 5 to 7, 2025, 40 selected participants will take part in Unconference sessions (proposed on the spot and inspired by “ignite talks” where significant experiences in local journalism will be presented) and working groups, coordinated by some of the most prominent figures in international journalism, which will lead to the creation of a 10-point programmatic document: a veritable compass to better navigate new challenges such as the impact of artificial intelligence or the need to experiment with new business models, which will be presented in a final public panel on June 7.

Access to the event will be by invitation only, but some participants will be selected through a call for ideas: an opportunity to share their experience of success, or failure, in experimenting with innovative projects aimed at better serving their communities.

Call for ideas

SHARE YOUR IDEA, GET YOUR INVITATION

We deeply believe in the transformative power of ideas, knowing they, and the brilliant minds behind them, originate from all contexts, across all latitudes. That’s why, even though our event is “invite-only,” we’ve created a call for ideas.

The best applicants will receive an invitation to be among the 40 selected individuals to participate in our exclusive event. A close-knit working group to create an impactful document and an innovative, resilient community.

If you have a story to share—whether it’s a success or even a failure, because good ideas don’t always find their way due to timing or context—or a proposal that reimagines how we serve our communities, you can apply to our call for ideas.

Selected participants will have the opportunity to join the event, held exclusively in person, in Catania from June 5th to 7th, 2025. The initiative will include an unconference segment (with topics chosen on the spot by participants, blurring the lines between speakers and attendees) and working groups focused on creating the 10 points document, that will be shared in a public conference at the end of the event.

Invitation Perks:

  • Exclusive invitation to event on June 5-7, with access to all the sessions and provided lunches, dinners, and aperitifs.
  • Opportunity for select participants to deliver an “Ignite talk” (a 5-minute, fast-paced presentation) to leading international media figures.
  • Special hotel rate: Sheraton Catania (€130/night, June 5-6).

Note: Travel to/from Catania is at participant’s expense.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS:  APRIL 25, 2025
